Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Gordan Grlić Radman on Moday participated in a panel discussion via video conference on “United or divided – Europe’s historic test of relevance and solidarity”, organized by United Europe. Also participating were former member of the ECB Executive Board Sabine Lautenschläger, Dean of the PSIA at Science Po Enrico Letta and former Finnish Prime Minister Alexander Stubb.
The participants discussed the COVID-19 pandemic, the EU’s response to it and the activities of the Croatian Presidency. “We have done our best to make sure the Council of the EU continues its work and decisions continue to be made at the Union level”, Grlić Radman said, adding that Croatia had organized and chaired numerous ministerial video conferences, as well as activated and coordinated the Integrated Political Crisis Response (IPCR).
Asked about the response of the newer EU member states to the pandemic, Grlić Radman highlighted Croatia as a country that has managed to curb the spread of the virus and keep the number of infected low. “The EU and member states offered mutual help in the spirit of solidarity,” the minister said, underscoring the successful cooperation in repatriation and consular assistance as an example. The result is nearly half a million of EU citizens that have been successfully returned home.
