Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Gordan Grlić Radman on Monday participated in a video conference of 10 EU foreign ministers, held on the initiative of German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas.
The conference focused on the resumption of tourist activities, freedom of movement and travel in the EU, in accordance with the European Commission’s guidelines and recommendations of 13 May 2020.
Given that many EU member states have a strong tourist industry, Grlić Radman said Croatia advocated a systematic and harmonized response from all of the countries. “We need a gradual approach, close coordination and agreement among the member states to restore travel and tourist trade in a way that reduces the risk of contracting COVID-19, while at the same time respecting the principles of proportionality and nondiscrimination,” he said.
The ministers called on all entrepreneurs in the tourist industry to introduce cautionary measures and protect tourists once freedom of movement is reinstated.
The Croatian Presidency will organize a conference of tourism ministers on Wednesday to resume talks on the implementation of the Commission’s guidelines and recommendations on restoring tourist activities, freedom of movement and travel in the EU.
