Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Gordan Grlić Radman 4 March 2020 attended a commemoration of Bulgaria’s Liberation Day at Gornjogradska gimnazija.

Opening his address, the minister gave a brief overview of the history of the Croatian-Bulgarian relations, which are steeped in cultural and literary exchange. He highlighted the contributions of Bishop Josip Juraj Strossmayer and historian Franjo Rački, who played key roles in the publication of Miladinov brothers’ “Bulgarian Folks Songs” and a warm welcome of Bulgarian students in Zagreb.

Grlić Radman went on to underscore satisfaction with the two countries’ relations of today, describing them as friendly and adding that Croatia and Bulgaria, in addition to frequent and productive contacts between their institutions, had also signed 40 or so agreements on economic, cultural and scientific cooperation.

Concluding his address, the minister wished success to the students and teachers of the Bulgarian Sunday School “Ivan Vazov”, and wished everyone a happy Liberation Day.
