Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Gordan Grlić Radman 20 November 2019 in Brussels attended a meeting of NATO foreign ministers.
The meeting discussed topical security matters in preparation for the London summit of 3 and 4 December this year.
The ministers reflected on NATO’s progress in achieving a fairer sharing of responsibilities among the allies, including finance. They discussed other strategic topics, such as relations with Russia, the fight against terrorism, arms control, energy security, responding to new technology challenges, space security and relations with China.
This year Croatia marked the 10th anniversary of NATO membership, during which it has proven itself a responsible and reliable partner, both in terms of mission participation and commitment to defence budget of 2% GNP by 2024.
Addressing the event, Grlić Radman recalled the security challenges in Europe’s southeast and applauded the agreement on setting up Bosnia and Herzegovina’s government. “We hope that thanks to this step forward, Bosnia and Herzegovina will profit from the reform process by submitting the Annual National Programme,” he said.
The meeting underlined the elements uniting the NATO member states in order to overcome the potentially divisive ones. “The London summit will be an opportunity to exchange views on the achievements during the Alliance’s seven decades of existence and to find an answer to the security challenges of today as well as those ahead of us,” Grlić Radman went on to say, concluding that the world still needed NATO.
