Foreign and European Affairs Minister Gordan Grlić Radman 6 October 2019 attended a commemoration of the 28th anniversary of the Croatian Army’s 144th Brigade – Sesvete. The commemoration began with a mass and continued with the laying of wreaths at the monument to the fallen homeland defenders in Sesvete.
Addressing the event, Grlić Radman reflected on the heroic days when, thanks to the providence of the first Croatian president Franjo Tuđman, we were united in defending our homeland.
“It is important that our children learn about the hard and historic days of the Homeland War, visit the locations of suffering and carry on the tradition of commemorating the victims. We should not forget the Greater Serbian aggression nor the courage of the Homeland War heroes”, Grlić Radman said.
The minister underscored that we should remind the public daily, especially the youth, that we are enjoying the fruits of freedom and independence precisely because of the sacrifice of our defenders. “Who could’ve imagined in those days that Croatia would be a free country, let alone preside over the EU in a couple of months?”, he stated.
