State Secretary Nikolina Brnjac 16-18 September 2019 paid a working visit to Strasbourg, where she met with a number of the European Parliament’s committee chairs and MEPs, as well as with the senior officials of the Secretariat, as part of Croatia’s preparations for the Council of the EU chairmanship.
Brnjac met with, amongst others, Deputy Secretary-General Markus Winkler, Foreign Affairs Committee Chair David McAllister, Budget Committee Chair Johan Van Overtveldt, Internal Policies Director-General Riccardo Ribera d'Alcala, and External Policies Director-General Pietro Ducci.
The state secretary familiarized her collocutors with the activities Croatia is undertaking for the upcoming Council of the EU chairmanship, underscoring that it was the country’s most complex European project since EU accession. The preparations as well as the chairmanship itself involve a number of executive bodies as well as a series of other institutions, from the Croatian Parliament to the civil society et al. At all the meetings, Brnjac underlined Croatia’s commitment and readiness to assume the Council of the EU chairmanship on 1 January 2020.
