State Secretary for European Affairs Andreja Metelko-Zgombić 28 June 2019 received the Second Secretary General at Ireland’s Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Rory Montgomery.
The two officials voiced satisfaction with Croatia and Ireland’s very good bilateral relations, underlining the intensification of high-level dialogue in the past several years.
Metelko-Zgombić and Montgomery discussed topical EU matters, with an emphasis on the new Multiannual Financial Framework, Europe 2020, Croatia’s upcoming EU presidency and Brexit. Metelko-Zgombić informed Montgomery about the status of Croatia’s accession to the Schengen Area and the eurozone.
Montgomery welcomed the election of Foreign Minister Marija Pejčinović Burić as the Council of Europe Secretary General, underlining the importance Ireland describes to that organization.
Wrapping up his visit, Montgomery delivered a lecture at the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs for state administration representatives about his experiences during Ireland’s 2013 Council of the EU presidency, during which he served as Ireland’s permanent representative to the EU.
