FM Pejčinović Burić attends World Assembly for Women conference

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Pejčinović Burićc, as part of her working visit to Japan, participated in a conference of the World Assembly for Women, held 22-24 March in Tokyo

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Pejčinović Burićc, as part of her working visit to Japan, participated in a conference of the World Assembly for Women, held 22-24 March in Tokyo. The main theme of this year's conference of the World Assembly for Women was diversity. The goal of the initiative is to connect women that head states, governments or ministries or hold leading positions in the corporate sector in the context of the empowerment of women in society. The main guest at the event was Malala Yousafzai, the Nobel Peace Prize laureate for 2014, and Michelle Bachelet Jeria, UN High Commissioner for Human Rights.

Pejčinović Burić attended a panel discussion on the importance of the promotion of diversity in the media, where she addressed the role of the media in shaping and changing the stereotypes about women’s role in society and global trends. She underlined the media’s influence on women’s position in society and the challenges women faced in the media space.

During the closing panel discussion, Pejčinović Burić spoke about raising awareness about the equal role of men and women as well as the empowerment of women as a factor in peace building and conflict resolving.

Pejčinović Burić also met with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, to whom she conveyed an invitation by Croatian PM Andrej Plenković to visit Croatia.
