Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Marija Pejčinović Burić 15 March 2019 paid a visit to Romania.

The Croatian foreign minister and her Romanian counterpart, Teodor Meleşcanu, underlined the two countries’ excellent bilateral relations and voiced satisfaction with the growth of economic cooperation, expressing support for its further strengthening. They also highlighted the high level of respective minority rights protection.  

Pejčinović Burić and Meleşcanu discussed the future of the EU, Brexit, Council of the EU presidency, Multiannual Financial Framework and enlargement. The two officials underscored the importance of the EU accession process for the stability of Southeast European countries, along with meeting all the criteria. They confirmed Croatia and Romania’s cooperation within NATO and PESCO and talks about preparations for joining the Schengen Area, eurozone and OECD.

Pejčinović Burić said that the Trio opened up the prospect of further intensifying the cooperation and giving mutual contribution in responding to the topical challenges the EU is faced with. She also congratulated on all of the presidency’s achievements so far.

During her visit to Romania, Pejčinović Burić also met with President Klaus Werner Iohannis. The two officials expressed satisfaction with the development of the two countries’ friendly relations as well as the various possible forms of cooperation within the EU and NATO thanks to similar views on a number of joint challenges.
