Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Marija Pejčinović Burić, as special envoy of Prime Minister Andrej Plenković, attended the 2nd session of the Council for Croats outside Croatia, held 10 November 2018 in Šibenik.
In her keynote address, Pejčinović Burić said the incumbent government was since day one committed to advancing cooperation and ties between Croats at home and abroad. “We will continue to support Croats outside Croatia, and these meetings are a chance to strengthen the human and personal aspect of those ties,” she said.
The council underlined the steps the government was taking to expedite the process of obtaining citizenship, simplify getting voting rights, establish a council for teaching Croatian as a second, foreign and heritage language, support programs and projects for Croats worldwide and so forth.
The participants discussed matters concerning legislative activities, economy, investments, competitiveness, cross-border cooperation and the Croatian national television’s international channel.
Also presented were projects launched by the council and relevant bodies, which include the register of Croats outside Croatia, the “Homeland” summer school and enhancing the Strategy on Croatia’s Relations with Croats Abroad.
