FM Pejčinović Burić officially visits South Korea

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Marija Pejčinović Burić is on an official visit the Republic of Korea.

During the visit, Pejčinović Burić met with her South Korean counterpart Kang Kyung-wha. The two officials underlined the two countries’ friendly relations and welcomed the opening of Croatia’s embassy in Seoul. They discussed a number of bilateral topics concerning culture, science and technology, underscoring the advancement of economic cooperation, which has great potential for further growth.

The two ministers expressed satisfaction with the successful cooperation in tourism, the opening of a direct Seoul-Zagreb flight and the upcoming opening of a Croatian National Tourist Board office in Seoul.

Pejčinović Burić also held talks with South Korean Prime Minister Lee Nak-yeon. Apart from highlighting the two countries’ very good and friendly relations, they underscored the need for further strengthening the economic relations as well as prospects of cooperation in innovation, infrastructure, healthcare and digital technology.

At the South Korean Parliament, Pejčinović Burić met with Deputy Speaker Joo Seung-yong and members of the Korean-Croatian parliamentary friendship group. The talks highlighted the two countries’ parliamentary relations.

During her stay in South Korea, Pejčinović Burić also visited the Hankuk University and the Samsun Innovation Museum. She welcomed in her address future Korean investments and cooperation with Croatia. Samsung was present in Croatia even during the Homeland War and in December 2016 relocated its regional headquarters to Zagreb.

At the Hankuk University, which has been offering Croatian language courses for as long as 30 years, Pejčinović Burić met with its president Kim In-chul. The talks underlined good cooperation in science and education founded in 2012 by the two governments’ agreement on cooperation in culture, science, education, arts and sport.
