Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Marija Pejčinović Burić, who was on an official visit to the United States, met 12 September 2018 with US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo.

The two officials underlined the friendly and allied relations between Croatia and the US, as well as the continuation of cooperation in priority areas of joint interest. They exchanged views on bilateral topics such as economic and energy cooperation, and confirmed partnership relations and cooperation in defence and security. Pejčinović Burić highlighted the importance Croatia placed on lifting visa requirements and launching talks on a double taxation agreement.

Pejčinović Burić and Pompeo also discussed Croatia-US cooperation in Southeast Europe. “We talked about the upcoming general in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the status of ethnic Croats in that country. These elections are very important and it is essential that the election results are applied legitimately," Pejčinović Burić said.

Speaking of the relations between Serbia and Kosovo, Pejčinović Burić underscored the importance of reaching a sustainable solution that would not jeopardize stability in the region and would take into account security and other implications beyond the region’s borders.

The Croatian minister also met with Mira Ricardel, deputy national security adviser to the US president; Ron Johnson, chairman of the Senate Subcommittee on Europe; and David Joyce and Nanette Barragan, co-chairs of the Croatian Caucus in the House of Representatives. She also delivered a talk on "Reinforcing Our Transatlantic Alliance: Croatia's Contributions and Ideas", organised by the Heritage Foundation.
