State Secretary for European Affairs Andreja Metelko-Zgombić 18 July 2018 received the UN Assistant Secretary-General for Political Affairs, Miroslav Jenča. The two officials exchanged views on the situation in Southeast Europe, notably Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, Kosovo, and Macedonia. Metelko-Zgombić underlined Croatia’s support for the European and Euro-Atlantic efforts of all Southeast Europe’s countries. In regard to Bosnia and Herzegovina, she stressed the importance Croatia placed on the country’s continued European integration, adding that Bosnia and Herzegovina’s functionality required full equality among the constituent nations. In that context, she said it was necessary to reform the election law so that legitimate representation of all three constituent nations would be ensured.

Jenča highlighted the support the UN can offer to the processes in Southeast Europe through the implementation of programmes and mechanisms such as the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, as well as by offering assistance in reconciliation, especially among youth, through the “Future Dialogue” project.
