After lengthy efforts, Croatian sailor Ivan Furčić returned this morning from Libya.
Furčić’s return is the result of continuous efforts and diplomatic and consular activities on the part of various Croatian institutions, security services and officials as well as intensive cooperation with the relevant Libyan authorities. We would also like to underline Italy’s assistance in this matter.
Since the moment of arrest, the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs, taking into account the complexity of the situation in Libya, had tried to ease Furčić’s stay in custody, improve his legal position before the Libyan court and aid in resolving the case.
We would like to thank all the parties involved for their perseverance and commitment to bringing Furčić back to Croatia.
