Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Marija Pejčinović Burić 23 April 2018 in New York attended an open debate held in the UN Security Council on the topic of Youth, Peace and Stability.

As the UNSC presiding country, Peru organized the open debate on the implementation of the Resolution on Youth, Peace and Stability. The resolution focuses entirely on the role of young men and women in peacebuilding and countering violent extremism. It also positions youth and youth-led organizations as important partners in the global efforts to counter violent extremism and promote lasting peace.

In her address, Pejčinović Burić underlined the fact that youth account for a significant part of the world’s population, and that global peace and security depend precisely on their well-being and protection, as well as the advancement of their rights. She emphasized the importance of making room for a strong and positive contribution of young people in the building of peace and security.

Pejčinović Burić also held bilateral talks with the chairman of the United Nations’ General Assembly, Miroslav Lajčak. The two officials discussed possibilities for making the UN activities stronger in peace building and maintenance. They also discussed the situation in the region and prospects of the international community stepping up its efforts to make Bosnia and Herzegovina a more stable and prosperous country that respects the principle of constituency.
