Croatia protests in strongest terms over incident at Serbia’s National Assembly

The Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs invited today Serbia’s ambassador to Croatia to hand her a protest note over the uncivilized and unacceptable attack by the convicted war criminal, MP and president of the Serbian Radical Party, Vojislav Šešelj, on the official Croatian parliamentary delegation

The Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs invited today Serbia’s ambassador to Croatia to hand her a protest note over the uncivilized and unacceptable attack by the convicted war criminal, MP and president of the Serbian Radical Party, Vojislav Šešelj, on the official Croatian parliamentary delegation led by Parliament Speaker Gordan Jandroković, and the desecration of the Croatian flag, hung for the occasion on the building of Serbia’s National Assembly.

The note, which the ambassador declined to accept, was later forwarded to the Serbian Embassy.

The ministry is confident that convicted war criminal Šešelj, clearly encouraged by lack of sanctions for his previous incidents involving the burning of the Croatian flag as well as the lack of reactions from top Serbian officials to his threats of repeating war crimes, together with representative of his party Filip Stojanović, dared to stomp on the Croatian flag and shout insults at Croatia’s delegation.

Croatia demands and expects the Serbian authorities to show zero tolerance for such unacceptable incidents and urgently take appropriate measures.

Croatia remains committed to the strengthening of good-neighbourly cooperation based on the principles of mutual respect and in accordance with European values.
