Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Marija Pejčinović Burić met 20 November 2017 in Brussels with European Commissioner for Migration, Home Affairs and Citizenship Dimitris Avramopoulos.
The two officials talked about the Croatian government’s efforts to meet by end-2018 the remaining technical criteria and create preconditions for the political decision on Croatia’s joining the Schengen Area in 2019. That would send a strong message about a united, solidified and democratic Europe which only as such can respond to the challenges of security, terrorism and illegal migration. Pejčinović Burić and Avramopoulos also talked about Croatia’s efforts to join the U.S. Visa Waiver Program as well as about the new regulations on joining and leaving the EU.
