Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Marija Pejčinović Burić attended 17 November 2017 in Durrës a meeting of the Adriatic Trilateral: Croatia-Albania-Montenegro.

This is the Adriatic Trilateral’s second meeting on the foreign-minister level.

The ministers expressed a wish for further advancement and intensification of dialogue between three countries on issues of joint interest. The strengthening of trilateral cooperation is a key element in contributing to stability and security in this part of Europe as well as for the EU-integration process.

Apart from the regular political dialogue on the Euro-Atlantic integration and matters of regional and international security, the foreign ministers highlighted the economic prospects, with an emphasis on tourism, transport, energy and infrastructure. They pointed out the importance of the Adriatic-Ionic corridor in terms of transport and energy.

The meeting concluded that the Adriatic Trilateral also has the potential to advance cooperation in responding to the challenges of extremism, terrorism and security issues.

Croatia reiterated its support for Montenegro’s EU accession talks and Albania’s opening them as soon as possible. To that end, Croatia is providing strong political support and direct technical assistance – by transferring the negotiation process experiences and expertise.
