FM congratulates International Women’s Day

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Davor Ivo Stier extended his best wishes on the occasion of the International Women’s Day to women in Croatia

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Davor Ivo Stier extended his best wishes on the occasion of the International Women’s Day to women in Croatia.

The International Women’s Day is officially observed by the UN member states since 1975 and represents yet another opportunity to reflect on everything that has been achieved in the fight for economic, political and social equality of women, as well as on everything that has yet to be done.

Promoting gender equality is high on the list of Croatia’s foreign policy priorities, as we support resolutions and documents passed by the UN and other international organizations on the need to step up the efforts on global, regional and national level in eradicating all forms of discrimination against women. Croatia has also confirmed its commitment to promoting gender equality as well as women and girls’ empowerment in the foreign policy field by chairing the Equal Futures Partnership global initiative.

The Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs through international organizations and bilateral relations actively contributes to combating violence against women and girls, strengthening their fundamental rights, as well as to their economic and political empowerment, notably in post-conflict and transition countries.

Promoting gender equality will continue to be high among the ministry’s human rights priorities.
