State Secretary Marija Pejčinović Burić attended an informal meeting of trade ministers, held 2-3 March 2017 in Valletta. The meeting was chaired by Malta’s Minister of Economy, Investment and Small Business Christian Cardona.

During a working dinner, the participants talked with WTO Director-General Roberto Azevêdo and Chairman of the Committee on International Trade Bernd Lange about the expectations concerning the 11th ministerial conference, to be held in December 2017 in Buenos Aires.

The second day saw the trade ministers in an informal setup discussing key trade topics and exchanging opinions about the reform of trade protection instruments as well as a possible new system of investment disputes settlement.

On the sidelines of the meeting, Pejčinović Burić held talks with Ian Borg, the Parliamentary Secretary for the EU Presidency 2017, who relayed Malta’s experiences in presiding over the Council of the EU, which are of special value to Croatia in terms of planning and organizing preparations for Croatia’s presidency in the first half of 2020.
