Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Miro Kovač extended his condolences to the Genscher family.
“I was deeply saddened by news about the death of former vice chancellor and foreign minister Hans-Dietrich Genscher.
Hans-Dietrich Genscher was one of the most important German and European politicians, who distinguished himself with his decades-long political engagement for Europe, Germany and world peace.
The Croatian people will always remember him as a persistent advocate of Croatia’s freedom, democracy and right to self-government. It was precisely this policy that contributed to the re-establishment of peace and stability and the development of a European perspective in Southeast Europe.
Croatia has lost a dear and close friend today. I am personally grateful to Hans-Dietrich Genscher for our long-standing friendship.
On behalf of the Croatian Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs and myself, please accept our deepest sympathies.
Miro Kovač”
