(Hina) - Croatian Foreign and European Affairs Minister Miro Kovač, who is on a two-day visit to Austria, on Thursday arrived in Eisenstadt, Austria, to meet with representatives of the Croat community living in the federal state of Burgenland.

Kovač met with the head of the Burgenland federal state, Hans Niessel, and they discussed, among other things, the establishment of a partnership between Burgenland and a Croatian county.

"Burgenland is a prosperous federal state with experience in renewable energy sources and it is very successful in absorbing EU funds... I believe that together we can make good things for Austria and Croatia," Kovač told reporters after the talks.

He expressed satisfaction with the role and status of the Burgenland Croats, who account for 10% of the state's population and 30% of positions in local self-government units.

On Friday, Kovač will meet with his Austrian counterpart Sebastian Kurz and he is also expected to meet with Minister of the Interior Johanna Mikl-Leitner.

Kovač and his hosts will discuss economic relations, tourism and cooperation in culture, as well as the current migrant crisis.
