Protest letter submitted to Slovenia

The Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs handed a note to the chargé d’affaires at the Slovenian Embassy in Croatia, strongly protesting against Slovenia’s unlawful erecting of barbed wire fence on Croatian national territory

The Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs handed a note to the chargé d’affaires at the Slovenian Embassy in Croatia, strongly protesting against Slovenia’s unlawful erecting of barbed wire fence on Croatian national territory at Sutla River, near the Harmica border crossing, and at Bregančica River, near the Bregana Naselje border crossing, violating the territory of the Republic of Croatia which even according to Slovenia’s official land records does not belong to Slovenia.

The note demands that the Slovenian authorities remove the wire from Croatia’s territory without delay.

During the meeting with the chargé d’affaires, Croatia reiterated that the setting up of barbed wire on the border could only further hamper efforts by EU countries to reach an agreement on a sustainable solution to the refugee crisis. Croatia also made it clear that Slovenia should not use the refugee crisis as an argument to continue the border arbitration, as Croatia no longer considered itself a party to the arbitration agreement after it was seriously violated by Slovenia.
