After five months and more than 250 events in as many as 38 cities, the “Rendez-Vous” festival, presenting French culture in all its diversity, richness and innovativeness, has ended.
At the final get-together of the festival’s organisers, associates and partners at the Culture Ministry on Thursday, addressed were delivered by Culture Minister Berislav Šipuš, French Ambassador to Croatia Michele Boccoz and Foreign Minister Vesna Pusić.
The festival initially envisaged 150 events in 21 towns but eventually consisted of 250 events in 38 towns, with more than 100 partners and 30 sponsors, Šipuš said, adding that "Rendez-Vous" followed the model of the earlier “Croatie, La Voici” Croatian culture festival in France.
Boccoz said she considered “Rendez-Vous” a festival of France and Croatia, given the enthusiasm shared over the past few months. This festivity of European culture is best described as mutual understanding and trust, she said, adding that this was another link in the friendship between the two countries.
Pusić said “Rendez-Vous” was a “fantastic journey together which began in France in 2012, showing Croatian culture through history,” adding that such festivals were the best way of connecting, when societies and not states get to know one another and that this had been the goal with Croatia House, a project that will present Croatian culture around the world.
The minister also voiced hope that, in the future, Croatia and Europe would help Middle Eastern countries not only with refugees, but in other ways too, so that projects such as the “Rendez-Vous” festival could one day be organised there too.
