FM Pusić to attend 70th UN General Assembly session

First Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign and European Affairs Minister Vesna Pusić is visiting New York 23 September-2 October, where she is expected to attend the 70th session of the United Nations General Assembly.

On Thursday 24 September Pusić is to meet with the UN General Assembly President Mogens Lykketoft. On Friday 25 September Pusić will attend an address by Pope Francis and a plenary session on Post-2015 Summit. The same day, Pusić is expected to deliver a speech at a panel titled “Transforming Economies: Empowering Women and Girls” and attend a meeting of the EU development ministers on “Ahead of Post-2015 Summit”, hosted by European Commissioner for International Cooperation and Development Neven Mimica.

Saturday 26 September will see a high-level meeting on “Selecting the Next Secretary-General: Opening up the Process”. The next day, 27 September, Pusić is to attend a “Global Leaders Meeting on Gender Equality and Women's Empowerment”.

On Monday 28 September, after the official opening of the 70th UN General Assembly session, Pusić is to take part in the “Peacekeeping Summit”, hosted by US President Barack Obama, followed by a meeting of the EU foreign ministers. On 29 September, Obama is also to host a high-level summit on fighting terrorism and ISIL. The same day, Pusić will host a side event on “Changing Attitudes to Prevent Sexual Violence in Conflict” along with Baroness Anelay of St John’s, the British Minister of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs.

During the UN general Assembly session, SEECP and CEI ministerial meetings are to be held too, as well as a high-level side event on “Strengthening Cooperation on Migration and Refugee Movements under the New Development Agenda”.

On the session’s margins, Pusić is expected to hold a series of bilateral talks. Also, on the invitation by Swedish Foreign Minister Margot Wallstrom, the informal network of female foreign ministers plans to meet for the first time.

The Croatian delegation is led by President Kolinda Grabar-Kitarović.
