First Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign and European Affairs Minister Vesna Pusić met today in Brussels with European Commission’s Vice-President Frans Timmermans to inform him about Croatia’s decisions and all the relevant facts leading up to Croatia's cessation of application of the Arbitration Agreement between Croatia and Slovenia. Although it is not in its immediate competence, the European Commission has all the information regarding the arbitration procedure with Slovenia and facilitated the process of its establishment.

Pusić underlined that the arbitration procedure had been irreversibly compromised to such an extent that the Arbitral Tribunal is no longer capable of reaching an impartial decision and that Croatia believed continuing the procedure was impossible and unsustainable. In spite of that, Croatia still wants to seek an alternative solution to the border issue with Slovenia, Pusić said, adding that the fact that the arbitration procedure cannot go on did not mean we couldn’t or didn’t want to find a different solution.

Timmermans expressed hope that Croatia and Slovenia would find a joint solution to determine the border between the two countries.
