First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Vesna Pusić is to visit 14-16 Addis Ababa, where she will co-chair the third international “Financing for Development” conference gathering senior officials, including heads of state and government, ministers of foreign affairs, finance and development cooperation, as well as representatives of business sector and civil society.
The goal of the conference is concrete contribution to the implementation of the Post-2015 Development Agenda, while the theme – outlined in UN GA resolutions68/204 and 68/279, will focus on evaluating the progress of the implementation of the Monterrey Consensus and Doha Declaration. The conference will also address the new circumstances in the promotion of international development cooperation, sources of sustainable development financing and UN’s support to the Post-2015 Development Agenda.
Development assistance as one of the cornerstones and key instruments of international relations was also the topic of this year’s Croatia Forum, held 9-11 July in Dubrovnik. Last year, Croatia marked the biggest increase in development assistance of all the EU member states relative to its GDP. Commissioner Neven Mimica said at the Dubrovnik conference that he hoped the Addis Ababa conference “will confirm the importance of EU’s official development assistance as the key instrument for financing development.”
