First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Vesna Pusić addressed the second panel of the conference "Women in Power and Decision-Making: Making a World of Difference", focusing on lessons learned during the past 20 years of leadership.
She said that now the agenda should be redefined, wondering if women's goals were to be the same as men. "I believe not," she said, adding that one should rather work to define instruments for achieving goals because goals were redefined when women were in positions of power. Men and women see the key instruments of foreign policy - energy and development assistance - differently, Pusić said, adding that for men it was a field in which to demonstrate power while for women it was a possibility for the normal functioning of everyday life and families.
Ahead of the conference, Pusić met with UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, and she was also expected to meet Chilean President Michelle Bachelet and Foreign Minister Heraldo Munoz.
The conference brought together women leaders from all around the world, from Lithuanian President Dalia Grybauskaite to Costa Rican Vice-President Ana Helena Chacon, UNDP Director Hellen Clark et al.
