Croatia welcomes Minsk agreement, states facts

Croatia welcomes the Minsk agreement and regards it as the first step towards a sustainable peace in Ukraine

Croatia welcomes the Minsk agreement and regards it as the first step towards a sustainable peace in Ukraine. As for the Croatian citizens fighting there, we are still trying to determine the exact circumstances. The fact remains that there are Croats fighting in Ukraine, eight of them overall, but we must reiterate that their departure is in no way tied to any of Croatia’s state institutions, nor do we support them in any way. Regardless of this being a small number of individuals, we are concerned by the situation and monitor it with utmost seriousness.

We believe that all foreign volunteers, including those from Croatia, should return to their home countries in order for the today’s agreement to yield results as soon as possible.

We would also like to underline that Croatia has been consistently advocating de-escalation of the conflict and finding a sustainable peaceful solution. On Monday, after a meeting of the Foreign Affairs Council in Brussels, First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Vesna Pusić said that “there has to be a ceasefire agreement, a gradual strategy for establishing peace. And we have to see concrete results of its implementation.”
