Assistant Minister Marušić attends GAC on Europe’s energy security

Assistant Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Hrvoje Marušić attended a meeting of the General Affairs Council, held 29 September in Brussels

Assistant Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Hrvoje Marušić attended a meeting of the General Affairs Council, held 29 September in Brussels. The meeting discussed the new 2020-2030 Climate and Energy Policy Framework, including measures for strengthening Europe’s energy security, as well as the economic situation in the EU and the implementation of the goals from the first priority area of the Strategic Programme – economic growth and new jobs, both crucial for the economic recovery and reducing unemployment in the EU.

“It is necessary to ensure an equal burden on all of the member states, as well as a synergy with the needs of energy security, economic growth and reindustrialization of the EU,” Marušić said.

The meeting also adopted conclusions on the EU Strategy for the Adriatic and Ionian Region (EUSAIR), whose implementation should begin by the end of this year. This is of great importance to Croatia, given the expected impact on the economy and social prosperity of the Adriatic and Ionian Region through growth and new jobs. “As special priorities within the EUSAIR Croatia sees a secure energy supply, better transport connectedness and further development of tourist attractions, including development of the Adriatic’s rural hinterland. The Strategy is also important as a catalyst of the continuation and revitalization of the enlargement process,” said the assistant minister.
