Croatia is marking today the 22nd anniversary of its admission to the United Nations. The General Assembly 22 May 1992 adopted a resolution admitting Croatia as a full-fledged UN member. This act represented global recognition of our country’s independence and sovereignty as well as the pinnacle of its diplomatic efforts.
From an object of international relations and a topic on the Security Council agenda, Croatia has in a relatively short time achieved considerable diplomatic success within the organization, notably membership in the Security Council, ECOSOC, PBC and numerous other UN bodies. Also, Croatia has grown from a recipient to a provider of development aid and has been taking part for more than a decade in numerous UN-led peacekeeping missions as well as in post-conflict rehabilitation of countries affected by armed conflicts.
A proactive approach to the promotion and realization of economic and social policies important for the UN Croatia assumed through a renewed ECOSOC membership, while its 2012-2015 PBC membership sees contribution to the development of democratic institutions and the rule of law as well as to preserving global peace and security.
