Deputy Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Joško Klisović met 13 March with Special Representative for Hong Kong Economic and Trade Affairs to the EU Linda Lai. Klisović said Croatia was interested in remote markets, such as the Chinese. The two officials agreed that Hong Kong was an attractive entry point to the Chinese market thanks to its excellent legal infrastructure and connections. Klisović said Hong Kong was a good opportunity for exporting Croatian wines and delicacies, among other things, not just to its own market but to the neighbouring market of China and other countries in the region.
In regard to Chinese investments in Croatia, Lai said that a precondition for attracting investors was the signing of a double taxation avoidance treaty between Croatia and China.
