The Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs hosted 20 February a meeting on the cooperation between Croatia and the UK as part of the Preventing Sexual Violence Initiative. Andrew Long, an expert from the UK Foreign Office, presented the activities the UK is conducting as part of the initiative. He thanked Croatia for joining PSVI, stressing the role of Foreign Minister Vesna Pusić as one of its spearheads.
Assistant Minister for Multilateral Affairs and Global Issues Vesna Batistić Kos underlined the importance Croatia placed on participating in PSVI and outlined priority areas for future cooperation among participating countries aimed at preventing sexual violence in conflicts and dealing with the consequences of such violence.
Assistant Minister of Veterans’ Affairs Bojan Glavašević outlined Croatia’s experiences in shaping the legal framework and institutional support for the victims of Homeland War sexual violence.
Participating in the discussion were also representatives from the Ministry of Justice, Ministry of the Interior and State Attorney's Office as well as representatives of civil organizations. The participants concluded that Croatia, as a country which experienced sexual violence in war, can greatly contribute to in international context to the forming of a strategy and the international community’s response to the still widespread violence against women.
