Intensifying bilateral relations in economy, education, culture and sports, the legal cooperation framework and upcoming highest-level visits were just some of the topics of the talks between Deputy Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Joško Klisović and Algerian Foreign Minister Ramtane Lamamra and Secretary General Nuor-Eddine Aouamen during his official visit to Algeria 21 and 22 January.
The two nations are linked by a long-standing friendship and numerous contacts between business people and students as well as a large number of Croatian companies present on the Algerian market. The interlocutors exchanged views on the current EU-Algeria issues, including the prospect of a tighter and project-oriented cooperation between the Mediterranean states. They also discussed crisis points in the wider neighbourhood, including Libya, Syria, Mali, Egypt and Palestine.
Klisović was accompanied under the auspices of the Croatian Chamber of Economy by representatives of 11 Croatian companies from the shipbuilding, demining, oil and gas sectors, as well as representatives of the Croatian Bank for Reconstruction and Development. The delegation met with the Algerian minister of tourism, transport and fisheries, secretary general of the Ministry of Energy and Mining, and secretary general of the Ministry of Defence. The talks reviewed the prospects of cooperation in these areas and interest was expressed in developing concrete partnerships though joint engagement of Croatian and Algerian companies as well as their transfer of technology and know-how. Klisović presented Croatian companies interested in participating in public works from said areas.
The Croatian Embassy in Algeria organized individual meetings at the competent ministries and agencies, business-to-business meetings with potential partners at the Algerian Chamber of Economy and a seminar on doing business on the Algerian market.
