October 24th marks the coming into force of the Charter of the United Nations and the 68th anniversary of this most important global organization that represents the cornerstone of international cooperation in various global issues and challenges that define our era. The Republic of Croatia became a full member of the United Nations on 22 May 1992 and in the last two decades Croatia has been going through a long and difficult path on its way to international affirmation and confirmation as a responsible and active member state.

Croatia has left its mark through active participation in various UN bodies, such as the Security Council – body responsible for peace and the security in the World (non-permanent member 2008 and 2009), the Economic and Social Council (two mandates, including the active session for 2013-2015), the UN Peacebuilding Commission (two mandates, including the active session for 2012-2013) and through engagement in various expert UN bodies.

Moreover, Croatia is acknowledged as an active UN member that deploys its own troops around the globe as well as a young donor country trough development cooperation which experience and expertise in post-conflict transition and transformation has been highly appreciated.

Croatia continues to strongly support UN activities, including issues of global peace and security, post-conflict peacebuilding sustainable development, democracy, respect for human rights and fundamental freedom and humanitarian law (through the affirmation of international judicial bodies).
