At the 17th Forum 2000 Conference titled “Societies in Transition,” held 15-17 September in Prague, Assistant Minister Vesna Batistić Kos held short talks with Myanmar opposition politician and Nobel Peace Prize winner Aung San Suu Kyi, met with Czech First Deputy Foreign Minister Jiři Schneider, and attended a round table on the particularities of the transition processes in the ex-Yugoslavian countries.

Bilateral talks held on the fringes of the conference explored the prospects of intensifying development cooperation with Myanmar, exchanged experiences and discussed cooperation with the Czech Republic in development projects, and incited interest with representatives of international civil society organizations in development cooperation with Croatian partner organizations. During the round table, Batistić Kos pointed out that through transition experiences unique in the EU and greatly appreciated internationally, acquired during the war and in the post-war period (e.g. demining, peaceful reintegration, psychosocial assistance for the victims), Croatia planned to strengthen the EU development programmes and improve the effectiveness of development cooperation towards third countries.
