Pusić attends conference on women's status

The participants discussed women's status in society

Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Vesna Pusić attended the international conference "Women in Diplomacy" in Rome 16 July 2012. The participants discussed women's status in society.

In her address, Pusić said that over a period of 30 years the difference in men's and women's salaries had been reduced by 5%, adding that in 1979 women's salaries were 80% of men's, compared to 85% in 2009. "Unemployment among women is always treated as a minor problem," Pusić said, citing the results of surveys showing that women reinvest 90% of their salary in the family, while men reinvest 40%. Pusić said that, according to surveys, in times of crisis women turn to cooperation and dialogue much more than men do, and stressed the importance of establishing health care and care for children in order to ensure equality for women.
