The two officials expressed satisfaction with the excellent bilateral relations, pointing out the possibilities of further advancing the cooperation given the numerous mutual interests within the European Union.

Pusić thanked Portugal for supporting Croatia along its European path, hopeful that it would ratify Croatia’s Accession Treaty as soon as possible.

Jeronimo da Silva said he foresaw no obstacles and that the Treaty would be ratified in a timely fashion.

Also discussed was the current economic and financial state of affairs in the Union, in light of the two-day meeting of the European Council that began today. The meeting also exchanged opinions about the Union’s new Multiannual Financial Framework and Cohesion Policy, with the two officials highlighting the problem of youth employment and the need to implement new measures to stimulate the economy.
