Pusić welcomed the children and their friends, hopeful that Croatia and its sights would be something to remember. She handed them gift packages from the Croatian National Tourist Board.

The children and their friends were also welcomed by the chief of Croatia's Special Mission in Baghdad, Ambassador Jerko Vukas, who was involved in preparing the visit.

The vacation, between June 20 and July 1, was organized by the Croatian Foreign Ministry, with the help of numerous Croatian companies. The children, aged nine to 14, come from families affected by the war. This is the second consecutive year the "Iraqi children in Croatia" project is being implemented, strongly contributing to the improvement of Croatia-Iraq cooperation and the development of the friendly relations between the two peoples. The project promotes religious tolerance and intercultural dialogue, given that the group includes Muslims and Christians who will meet Croatian children.

The visiting children are accompanied by representatives of Iraq's humanitarian organizations and media, who are reporting on the visit and Croatia in general. The group is led by Hashem Salman, Iraq's ambassador for children and TV editor and host. The Iraqi children will stay in Zagreb three days, including a meeting with Croatian President Ivo Josipović, and eight days on the coast.
