Pusić received UN ASG for Civilian Capacities Sarah Cliffe

Cliffe presented CAPMATCH, a United Nations project designed to systematize civilian capacities of the member-countries in terms of providing assistance to post-conflict countries

Cliffe presented CAPMATCH, a United Nations project designed to systematize civilian capacities of the member-countries in terms of providing assistance to post-conflict countries, namely in the building and strengthening of national institutions, security sector, judiciary, rule of law, and employment. Given its transition and post-conflict experience, as well as its intensified engagement in international peacekeeping missions and operations, Croatia has been invited to join the project.

Pusić said Croatia viewed Cliffe’s visit to Zagreb in the context of own efforts to bolster the civilian aspect of its engagement in peacekeeping missions and position itself as a future EU member with a recent post-conflict experience. She pointed out that Croatia’s experience in political transition and consolidation, as well as experience in institution building, could be transferred to certain post-conflict and fragile countries. She said the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs was planning to set up a team of experts in the fields of EU transition and post-conflict reconstruction.

The minister applauded the United Nations’ initiative, which coincides with Croatia’s efforts to that end, stressing it would act as an incentive to speed up the systematization and coalescence of Croatian experts in said fields, as well as the inclusion of Croatia’s civilian capacities into the CAPMATCH system.
