The election of the leader of Myanmar's pro-democratic opposition, whose National League for Democracy won a landslide victory in partial parliamentary elections on 1 April, represents a contribution to the country's democratisation.
In a letter of support to the Myanmar politician, Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Vesna Pusić underlined that the election was an important step forward towards democracy and reconciliation in Myanmar and that her personal courage and determination had become recognisable beyond the country's borders.
