The minister underlined Croatia’s commitment to the basic goals of La Francophonie and stressed the significance of the French language for Croatia in view of its pending EU membership. She thanked the International Organization of La Francophonie for supporting Croatia’s national programme of French courses for civil servants and said Croatia was interested in continuing the programme that, pursuant to the Memorandum of Cooperation, had been running since 2006.

Given Croatia’s experience in transition and post-conflict institution building, Pusić voiced its willingness to share that experience with the French-speaking countries of the south Mediterranean. This namely pertains to the development of civil dimension, which can be a stabilizing element of society and institution building.

Diouf expressed satisfaction with the fact that Pusić’s visit came in March, a month when the International Day of La Francophonie is traditionally being marked worldwide. He also briefed her on the preparations form the first French Language World Forum, to be held in July in Quebec.

Croatia was admitted as observer to the International Organization of La Francophonie in 2004, at the 10th La Francophonie Summit in Ouagadougou (Burkina Faso).
