Meeting held on further division of former SFRY diplomatic and consular offices

Representatives of the five successor states, who together make up the Joint Committee for Succession, agreed to distribute in kind a total of 23 diplomatic and consular buildings in three geographical regions

Representatives of the five successor states, who together make up the Joint Committee for Succession, agreed to distribute in kind a total of 23 diplomatic and consular buildings in three geographical regions.

In the region of Latin America and the Caribbean, six buildings were distributed: Croatia got the former SFRY consulate-general in Santiago de Chile, Slovenia got the residence in Brasilia and the consulate general in Sao Paolo (Brazil), while Serbia got the embassy and residence in Lima, Peru, and the embassy in Caracas, Venezuela.

In the geographical region of North Africa, five buildings were distributed: Slovenia was given the embassy in Rabat, Morocco, Serbia was given the embassy, residence and consulate in Cairo, Egypt, and Croatia was given the embassy in Tunis, while the embassy in Algeria was divided in equal parts among Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina for the purpose of joint sale or some other purpose, depending on what the two countries agree.

In the geographical region of South Africa and Sahara, 12 buildings were distributed: Croatia got the residence in Nairobi, Kenya, the embassy and residence in Khartoum, Sudan and the residence in Madagascar. Bosnia and Herzegovina was given the embassy in Nairobi, Kenya, Slovenia was given the embassy and residence in Dar-es-Salaam, Tanzania and the residence in Mali, while Serbia was given the embassy in Kampala, Uganda, the embassy and residence in Kinshasa, DR Congo and the embassy and residence in Lusaka, Zambia.

Members of the Joint Committee for Succession agreed to go on with the joint sale of the former SFRY embassy building in Bonn, Germany, and to divide future costs of legal and agency services for the purpose of sale, as well as the eventual sale price, in line with the ratios determined for each successor state.

They also adopted the minutes of meetings of the expert group for succession to the former SFRY's cultural assets, held in Skopje (26-27 October 2011) and Ljubljana (30-31 January 2012), noting that the actual handover of cultural assets was under way.

The next meeting of the Joint Committee for Succession will be held in Skopje.
