Foreign and European Affairs Minister Vesna Pusić attended 28 February 2012 in Brussels a meeting of the EU General Affairs Council.

The meeting, which Pusić attended as an observer, discussed membership candidate status for Serbia and Kosovo's efforts to draw closer to the European Union. Croatia supports efforts to grant Serbia EU membership candidate status and to approve the preparation of a feasibility study on the possibility of opening negotiations on a Stability and Association Agreement with Kosovo, Pusić said.

In a discussion with Miroslav Lajčak, the Managing Director for Russia, Eastern Neighbourhood and the Western Balkans in the EU's External Action Service, Pusić said that Croatia would recommend its neighbours bilateral agreements which would define cooperation in transferring experiences from the accession process.

On the fringes of the meeting, Pusić also met with Cypriot Foreign Minister Erato Kozaku-Markulis, whose country takes over the rotating EU presidency on July 1. Since Croatia does not have an embassy in Cyprus, they discussed the possibility of sending a Croatian diplomat to Cyprus before the start of its presidency to facilitate communication with the EU presidency until the end of the year.
