Pusić paid official visit to Hungary, met with Foreign Minister Martonyi

Pusić thanked Hungary for supporting Croatia’s EU accession

Pusić thanked Hungary for supporting Croatia’s EU accession, closing the negotiation during the Hungarian EU presidency, and the speedy ratification of Croatia’s Accession Treaty.

The two ministers talked about the future cooperation within the EU and confirmed the excellent, good-neighbourly and partnering relations between the two countries, stressing the need to advance cooperation in the economic sector, notably in the construction of energy and transport infrastructure, and to promote cross-border cooperation.

On the subject of protection of the Hungarian minority in Croatia and the Croatian minority in Hungary, they mentioned such forms of cooperation as the education of young people and joint scholarship programmes supported by EU funding and the possibility of establishing a joint Croatian-Hungarian fund “Zrinski”. The two ministers highlighted the importance of further EU enlargement to include the countries of Southeast Europe, where Croatia plays an important role by sharing its experience from the EU accession process.

Pusić also met with Hungarian President Pal Schmitt, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Justice and Public Administration Tibor Navracsics, Vice-Chairman of the parliamentary European Affairs Committee Matyas Firtl, and members of the parliamentary Hungarian-Croatian Friendship Group. She concluded her official visit by meeting representatives of the Croatian community in Hungary, presidents of the Croatian Self-Government and the Alliance of Croatians in Hungary.
