Pusić and Markovski described the two countries' relations as friendly and permanently improving, with ceremonies set for late March to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations. Pusić and Markovski were also satisfied with the dynamic cooperation of the two countries within the US-Adriatic Charter and numerous regional initiatives and forums.

The minister said that Croatia was in favour of giving Macedonia a date for the opening of its EU accession negotiations as soon as possible, and supported Macedonia's NATO membership bid, considering it important for the stability of the region as well.

Ambassador Markovski thanked Croatia for the support to Macedonia on its road to the Euro-Atlantic integration, voicing hope that the excellent cooperation would continue. He also said he was pleased with the status of the Macedonian minority in Croatia, recalling that in the previous few years additional progress had been made in terms of the possibility of elementary schools with Macedonian language curriculum, and that in 2008 a Macedonian language lectorate was opened at the Faculty of Rijeka.

The two officials agreed that there was room for further improvement in economic relations and trade, especially in light of the fact that there are over 70 Croatian companies operating in Macedonia. To that end, the Macedonian side proposed the opening of an intergovernmental body for economic cooperation.

Markovski also said he hoped Pusić would pay an official visit to Macedonia soon.
