The purpose of the 700-square-meter building is to be decided on once its value and all the options reviewed.

This represents the continuation of the process of taking over real estate of the diplomatic and consular representations of the former SFRY, pursuant to the 2006 resolution by the Joint Succession Committee allotting 44 pieces of real estate from the so-called “OECD region”, of which Croatia is to assume 10. The agreement reached at the meeting of the Joint Succession Committee in May this year determined the timeframe for taking over the 10 pieces of real estate, which were or largely still are owned by the Republic of Serbia.

Apart from the two Trieste apartments taken over early-July this year, the embassy in Vienna taken over in August, the Oslo residence taken over in October and the Lisbon embassy taken over yesterday, Croatia is to assume ownership of two more pieces of real estate by the end of the year (the diplomatic residences in Madrid and Helsinki).

No later than 31 August 2012, Croatia is to assume ownership of the three remaining pieces of real estate (the embassy in The Hague, general consulate in Toronto and diplomatic residence in Stockholm).

The last meeting of the Joint Succession Committee, held in September in Sarajevo, agreed in principal that the following meeting be held in December this year in Zagreb.
