After the bilateral meeting and speeches at the Bydgoszcz city hall, ministers Jandroković and Sikorski handed the exequatur to honorary consul Henryk Maciejewski and later unveiled the plaque of the Consulate the of the Republic of Croatia in Bydgoszcz, marking its opening.

Expressing satisfaction over meeting again with Minister Sikorski, this time in his hometown of Bydgoszcz, Minister Jandroković congratulated Henryk Maciejewski on his appointment as the Croatian honorary consul. He pointed out that after Krakow, Bialystok and Poznan, this was Croatia’s fourth consulate in Poland, and expressed belief that it would contribute to the overall development of the Croatian-Polish friendship and partnership. He also said this was yet another confirmation of the importance Croatia placed on nurturing its relations with Poland.

Touching upon the deep-running and diverse ties between the two countries, from the Slavic language and tradition to the rich cultural and historical heritage, Minister Jandroković pointed out that Croatia and Poland were also united in their clear dedication to the Christian values. He noted the special relationship between the Croatian people and Pope John Paul II, who had visited Croatia three times, and recalled the fact that the Holy See was among the first to recognize Croatia, prompting the other countries of the world to do the same.

Thanks to their strong ties, Croatia and Poland are true partners today, as proven by the cooperation within NATO, as well as in the context of the European Union, said Jandroković. In that regard, he thanked Poland and Minister Sikorski personally for the continuous support during the length of the accession process, especially in the final stages of the EU negotiations. Stressing the importance of the current Polish EU presidency for Croatia, he recalled that 17 September Prime Minister Tusk officially handed the text of the Accession Treaty to Prime Minister Kosor, while the other significant event will be marked by the signing of this important document expected during December precisely in Warsaw. The signing of the Accession Treaty will represent the final confirmation of Croatia’s EU membership, a community within which the cooperation between Croatia and Poland will reach the next level, said Minister Jandroković.

Speaking about the possibilities of further deepening the economic relations, he recalled the holding of two economic forums – the first one in December the previous year in Krakow and the second one in February this year in Zagreb. He expressed conviction that the development of the cooperation would surely be augmented by the Croatian-Polish Chamber of Industry and Commerce. He expressed special satisfaction with the cooperation in tourism, noting that the year before nearly half a million of Poles had visited Croatia. He also said Croatia greatly appreciated the transfer of knowledge and experiences with Poland aimed at strengthening their capacities to use the EU funds, and recalled the recent successful visit by Croatian country heads delegation to Poland.

As Bydgoszcz is an important university, cultural and economic centre, Minister Jandroković said the Croatian consulate there would also contribute to the overall development of Croatia-Poland friendship and partnership.

Minister Sikorski too expressed satisfaction with the opening of the consulate in Bydgoszcz, which will augment the development of the bilateral relations, especially in economy, as well as the strengthening of contacts between the Croatian and Polish businessmen.

After the ceremonious opening, Minister Jandroković will meet with Croatian honorary consuls to Poland - Jerzy Domicz from Poznan, Pawel Wlodarczyk from Krakow and Henryk Maciejewski from Bydgoszcz.
