The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration co-sponsors this year's Terry Fox Run, a charity event to be held for the twelfth time with the aim of raising funds for cancer research and increasing awareness of the disease. In the past 11 years that the race has been held in Croatia, over 4 million kuna has been raised. The central event, the Marathon of Hope, organised by the Canadian embassy, the Croatian Cancer League and others, will be held at the Jarun lake on 18 September.

The Terry Fox Run takes place every year in the memory of Terry Fox, a young Canadian who lost his leg due to cancer. In 1980, he began the Marathon of Hope, a run across Canada to raise money for his medical treatment. Unfortunately, he did not finish the run as the disease returned and took his life at the age of 22. In his honour, Terry Fox’s family launched the charity event aimed at raising funds to combat cancer, which is held every year in Canadian cities and in 67 countries worldwide, including Croatia, organised by Canadian embassies.
