The 13th session of the Adriatic-Ionian Council saw the foreign ministers discussing the Euro-integration processes in South Eastern Europe and the EU Strategy for the Adriatic-Ionian Macroregion in the context of its current condition, as well as future development and perspectives.

In his presentation, Minister Jandroković pointed out that today’s meeting coincided with the session of the EU General Affairs Council, from which Croatia expects important and positive signals as regards the conclusion of its negotiation process. In that sense, he said that the final stages of Croatia’s negotiations and the impending EU membership were highly important for all of the Southeast European countries, as well as a strong incentive on their European path. He emphasized once again that all of the region’s countries could continue to count on Croatia’s support for their aspirations to join the Euro-Atlantic integration.

Informing the present parties about Croatia’s activities within the EU Strategy for the Danube Region, he described the macroregion concept as positive. It is a format that facilitates a closer cooperation between the neighbouring countries that are being brought together with a single geographical unit to the benefit of each of them individually, as well as for the general development of the macroregion and the protection of its natural resources, said Minister Jandroković.

Apart from cooperation with the EU members, he said that Croatia successfully and constructively cooperated with the neighbouring non-members as well. He characterized such cooperation as important for reducing the economic and social differences between the European regions.

Minister Jandroković expressed support for the activities and further development of the EU Strategy for the Adriatic-Ionian Macroregion, saying its was an important instrument of the Adriatic and Mediterranean policy for Croatia. He pointed out Croatia was interested and willing to actively contribute to the overall development of the Adriatic-Ionian macroregion.
